This difference is explained by the fact that the Sun, Moon and planets only appear to circle us every day. Actually the earth is rotating on its axis and facing the successive areas of the zodiac in a clockwise fashion. The normal motion of the planets forward through the degrees of the zodiac circle is in a counterclockwise direction, the same as the positioning of the houses. All of us have the 12 houses in our charts, in the same positions relative to one another and relative to the four directions.

The houses are defined by the directions and orient the zodiac to the directions from a particular place on earth at a particular time. It is also indisputable, but it is relative and depends on the longitude and latitude from which one is viewing the sky, as well as the time of year since the earth is tilted with the Northern Hemisphere leaning north in the winter and south in the summer. The angles are considered the most powerful positions on the chart wheel. At the 7th House Descendant , we make one-to-one contact with others on a personal level.

Although astrologers cannot argue about the horizon line and vertical axis these are fixed positions according to the four directions , they have disagreed about how to slice the pie of the sky up into the 12 pieces called the Houses. Some astrologers prefer to use houses which are all equal in size.

This system is called the Equal House system. Frequently it is used when the birth time is not known. As the world spins around every day, any particular place on earth faces each part of the zodiac circle at some point during every day. Thus all the degrees of the zodiac touch each of the houses at some point each day. There is not always a one-to-one correspondence of signs to houses or vice versa. Some houses in a chart will be smaller and some will be bigger. A small house might be 15 degrees, a large one maybe Some houses can be so big, an entire sign falls within its boundaries.

Some astrologers feel this occurs after about age 29, while other say more like When planets move around the chart, they visit big houses longer and small houses more quickly. A house can also be said to be intercepted when it begins and ends all in one sign. Any planet inside the house will also affect the matters of the house. The planet in charge of ruling the sign on the cusp will also affect the matters of the house. Each house represents certain areas of life.

These are like the stage sets upon which the action of our lives takes place. The planets in a chart represent energies and urges; they are like the actors. The signs represent how those energies and urges are enacted, similar to the characteristics or emotions of the characters portrayed by the actors. If you cut the circle of a chart wheel in half, each side will mirror the other as far as house size goes. If the 1st House is small, the opposite house the 7th will be exactly the same size.

The 4th House might be big and if it is, the house opposite it the 10th House will be just as big. We are familiar with the Earth's equator because of our knowledge of geography. If we could extend the earth's equator into space so that it could be viewed against the background of stars, we would be able to see what in astronomy is called the celestial equator. Because the Earth's axis of rotation is tilted with respect to the ecliptic by The two points in the sky where these two planes cross are called the equinoxes.

What Happens When Earth’s Magnetic Poles Reverse?

We call the vernal equinox the intersection point where the Sun, in its apparent motion against the background stars along the ecliptic, crosses the celestial equator from south to north, usually occurring around March 21 st. Similarly, we call the autumnal equinox the intersection point where the Sun, in its apparent motion against the background stars along the ecliptic, crosses the celestial equator from north to south, usually occurring around September 21 st. The first day of Spring then corresponds to the vernal equinox and the first day of Fall corresponds to the autumnal equinox.

During the time of the equinoxes, we on the Earth experience twelve hours of day and twelve hours of night. The precession of the equinox. Figure 4 The precession of the Earth around its axis. The Earth's rotation on its axis has caused the Earth's shape to diverge from a sphere, and has caused the Earth's equatorial regions to bulge out. Because the Earth's equator is tilted with respect to the orbital plane of the Earth around the Sun, the Earth's equatorial bulge is also tilted with respect to the plane along which the Sun and Moon travel.

Western Astrology

The Moon and the Sun exert a gravitational drag on the Earth's equatorial bulge, trying to pull the Earth's equatorial region to be aligned with the ecliptic plane. This pull, along with the rotational motion of the Earth on its axis, the revolution of the Earth around the Sun, and the revolution of the Moon about the Earth, cause the Earth to wobble about its axis of rotation, similar to the motion of a spinning top.

This motion is called precession. It is the wobbling of the equatorial plane that causes the line of the intersection of the equatorial and ecliptic planes to move. As mentioned above, the intersection of these two planes determine where on the zodiac our spring and fall equinoxes occur. This line of intersection is said to precess or move around the zodiac because of the wobble.

Figure 5 Circular path that the north equatorial pole describes due to the precession of the Earth. Figure 4 shows a schematic of the Earth's precession, this effect gradually changes where on the zodiac the equinox points fall. This precession means that the spring equinox was just entering Pisces years ago and it is about to enter the constellation of Aquarius that is the reason why many astrologers say that we are going to start the Aquarius epoch.

An extension of the Earth's axis out into space traces out a conical figure with a time cycle or period of 26, years. The Earth's precession implies that although Polaris is currently the star above our north pole, in about 13, years Vega will become our north star; only after yet another 13, years, will the north pole will once again point towards Polaris, as shown in Figure 5. Therefore, because of the Earth's precession, the constellation which is behind the Sun nowadays is actually different from the one predicted by astrologers. Ophiuchus, the 13 th constellation of the zodiac.

The constellations of the zodiac at the present. Unlike the zodiac signs in astrology, the astronomical constellations vary widely in size. If we think of the sky as a great sphere, the areas that different constellations cover can be drawn fairly accurately.

There are a number of days of the Earth's orbit when the Sun is between our planet and any one of the zodiacal constellations. Provided by NASA. This document is subject to copyright. Their are still two opposite poles. Meaning areas of "north" polarity and "south" polarity. When you talk about the polarity of the whole sun, you're really talking about the average of all the individual fields it is composed of. In my opinion the magnetic field is switched with direction of plasma flow beneath the Sun surface, which is circulating around barycenter of solar system That doesn't sound unreasonable. However, I really don't think there's enough evidence to really support any given theory at this point, so it's all just guesses.

Another contending theory I like is where there are two or more layers inside the sun, which rotate independently in the same direction, but almost in sync this syncronization could be any multiple of resonance, so one could be twice the rotation rate of the other, etc. Wait a minute Solar activity affects cloudiness and climate??? Somebody please explain to my how my big ol' gas-guzzlin' pickup truck is driving all this solar activity.

Solar activity affects climate - the article says nothing about climate affecting solar activity, nor does it address your vehicle's affect on climate change. Man you really need to get some help. You've got a problem. I agree. Take your climate extreemism to the environment section. There's plenty of climate zombies eager to argue with you there. If not, then create multiple accounts and argue with yourself. Then you can totally win the argument. Meanwhile, back on topic, this peak should be interesting since this is the first one we have observed with the newest generation of instruments.

There is also another possibility, a transformer action in the circuit powering the sun. There is also another possibility, a transformer action along the circuit powering the sun. I don't think one of them could survive at those temperatures for long. Yea, but even with a big bag of dipoles - each dipole has a north and a south and they are equal.

I see what you are saying that they add up to a north and a south pole but then the north and south pole would still be equal and opposite. How on earth ;-0 does one go away before the other? Interesting opinion, Franklins.

Have there been any dynamics or related structures observed by probing with helioseismology when the barycenter dips below the surface? Franklins, who made the sunspot dissipation observations? Aug 07, There is no barycenter, as the sun moves through space it traces out a helical path. The 2D orbital imagery of the solar system we are taught in school is a throwback to heliocentrism. Every newspaper in the land has a section on astrology, yet few have anything at all on astronomy.

Actually, here is the helical solar animation. A plasmoid sun. There is no barycenter Of course the solar system has a barycenter. Although this animation doesn't show the helical path of the sun itself, it gives a better picture of the electrodynamic solar system. No, it's just that most of us are smart enough to use a convenient reference frame. Or is it laziness. I was unaware finding the true mechanics of any system was not about "convenience" for the scientists but to truly understand a system.

How can you truly examine a 3D system in 2D? In addition, with the Sun traveling as it does, the planets must orbit the sun without Einstein's self imposed speed limit for gravity. If it weren't the case the orbits would quickly degrade. I have never found anything like that in serious books or articles, or had any physics lecturers that would espouse such a belief. How did you deduce that?!?! Reference Please! It's a bit a tiny bit like if you put two bar magnets end-to-end with the same poles in the middle e.

N-S S-N. Do you have a monopole? Yes And it's pretty obvious that this is not a stable configuration - but just an intermittent state towards a 'regular' alignment.

Elbert Benjamine

I agree with what you say, but I would qualify that statement about the monopole. It would appear that you can have 2 polarities, but still have a monopole in the case of a sphere. You're still treating the magnetic field as a single entity. Each component acts just as you would expect, but they are not all of equal magnitude. Let's take a grossly simplified example: Pretend the sun's magnetic field has two sources; two giant electromagnets inside the sun, one above the core and one below the core north and south of the core if you prefer.

As you know, the strength and polarity of an electromagnet depend on the direction and amplitude of current flowing through them. So, if we start out with both of them being equal, then the sun as a whole will have a perfect dipole from our POV. Decrease the power on one and the poles will be lop-sided. If they are equal but opposite, they'll cancel out between them at the core and have the same polarity at both poles two north or two south poles.

As antialias pointed out, this is not a stable configuration. I would like to further point out that it takes a LOT of potential energy to force the polarity into this unstable configuration. It basically goes from the stable state into an unstable state, which represents a huge decrease in entropy, which nature doesn't like entropy always naturally seeks to increase, so that any system will be at its lowest possible energy state before it is stable.

I think even the barycenter theory wouldn't work out. If that was the source, then this flip would affect the angular momentum of the solar system, since that would be the source of the energy. Since this happens every 11 years, I don't think it would be sustainable on stellar time scales. It would eventually stop itself. I wonder how the numbers work out exactly? Qstar The sun's north pole has already changed sign, while the south pole is racing to catch up how does this not mean the sun currently has two poles of the same sign?

Having two areas of opposite polarity doesn't break any laws of nature.
